How to Become an Individual Volunteer

Get started by completing a short online application (individual or group). You can then attend a Gilda’s Volunteer 101 training session to learn more about the mission of Gilda’s Club, how we serve and communicate with our members (those impacted by cancer), tour our clubhouse, and the kinds of volunteer opportunities currently available. Visit our program calendar to register for an upcoming Volunteer 101 training session.

Child, Teen, and Family Program Volunteer – Support licensed mental health professionals in delivering programs for children, teens, and families. Additional training is required.

Clubhouse Maintenance/Handyperson – Help keep the clubhouse running smoothly with light maintenance projects, such as changing light bulbs, repairing minor damage, or fixing small mechanical issues. Opportunities are weekly or monthly.

Fundraising Event Volunteer – Assist with all aspects of event planning and execution, including setup, registration, raffle ticket sales, swag distribution, crowd management, cleanup, and follow-up. Tasks may vary by event.

Greeter/Clubhouse Host – Be the welcoming face and voice of GCWI. Duties include checking in members, answering questions, directing visitors, and maintaining the warm, homey feel of the clubhouse. Weekly or bi-weekly commitment; minimum 6 months.

Healthy Living Facilitator – Lead a workshop or activity in your area of expertise, such as meditation, journaling, sewing, nutrition, cooking, art, advocacy, or more. All proposals must be approved in advance by the Program Director.

Outreach Volunteer – Represent GCWI at health fairs and community events, or help distribute program calendars and event information to area hospitals and clinics (bi-monthly).

Professional Services Volunteer – Donate your expertise—legal, PR, technical, financial, medical, or program-related—to support staff and board operations, programming, and special projects.

Social Event Volunteer – Foster community at Gilda’s Club by helping with social events, which may include dinners, lunch-and-learns, entertainment, decorations, and other activities.

Associate Board – Young professionals using their skills, networks, and experience to raise awareness and support for Gilda’s Club Wisconsin. Members meet monthly and commit for one year.

Building and Maintenance Committee – Provide guidance and insight on the upkeep, safety, and maintenance of the clubhouse. Meets quarterly with a one-year commitment.

Development Committee – Identify, cultivate, and engage new individual donors, event sponsors, and third-party fundraisers to sustain Gilda’s Club programs financially. Meets every other month; one-year commitment.

Diversity and Equity Committee – Share your expertise to help Gilda’s Club connect with diverse and underserved communities. Support these efforts through participation in public outreach and engagement events. Meets 3–5 times per year; one-year commitment.

Governing Board – Serve on the Governing Board to guide strategy, strengthen our mission, and make a lasting impact for those facing cancer. Board members meet every other month, serve on a committee, participate in fundraising, and commit to a three-year term. Public Relations Committee – Help grow community awareness of Gilda’s Club programs and fundraising events through your expertise in marketing, media, design, and communications. Meets every other month; one-year commitment.

Group Volunteering

To get started, complete our Group Volunteer Interest form. Our volunteer coordinator will contact you to discuss the volunteer opportunities best suited to your group and your group’s interests.

Deep Cleaning Crew – Ensure GCWI is a clean, safe, welcoming environment for our members to feel at home in by bringing your group to clean/sanitize spaces.

Family Night Dinner Guest Cooks – Tuesdays 4-6:30pm come prepare a buffet style dinner for members attending Family Night Support Meetings. (4-6 people)

Gardening – Bring your green thumbs to beautify the gardens around GCWI May-October.

Host an Activity/Social – Bingo, Karaoke, Dance Party, Game Night, any family friendly social your group wants to bring in for our members we want to hear about it.

Hold your own Fundraising Event – Jeans Day, Office Supply Drive, Gift Card Drive, Healthy Activity Challenge, Biking/Walking/Running/Kayaking etc. Event, Music Event, Motorcycle Ride, tell us your ideas.

Volunteer at a Fundraising Event – gather auction items, registration, crowd control, set up/clean up.
